Welcome Centre Schleswig-Holstein roadshow in the Stormarn district
Review of the event "Securing the future: International skilled workers for your company"
On 18 September 2020, together with the Welcome Center Schleswig-Holstein, we successfully held the event "Securing the future: International skilled workers for your company". The Welcome Centre supports companies and international skilled workers with recruitment, integration and legal orientation in order to combat the shortage of skilled workers and promote long-term working relationships. On this day, practical approaches and proven models for recruitment and integration were presented and discussed.
Highlights of the event:
####Recruitment of skilled labour in Schleswig-Holstein
The Welcome Centre SH and Matthias Guist, placement specialist at the Federal Employment Agency, provided insights into current opportunities for recruiting international talent. The employment agency's applicant exchange was presented, as well as other projects that focus on fair recruitment, such as international recruitment projects organised by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, as well as collaborations with universities.
#### Integration of foreign skilled workers in the company
Iga Urbanski explained how companies can retain foreign skilled workers in the long term. The focus here was on both professional and social integration. A particular highlight was the "welcome folder", which companies can customise to introduce themselves to potential applicants - not only with a job description, but also with social aspects and offers from the company for integration into the private environment. In addition to company sports groups, this can also include joint activities outside of work.
#### Best practice examples
Three examples of best practice demonstrated successful approaches:
**Maren Bruckschen** (Segeberger Kliniken) presented the clinics' integration management programme. This includes online language courses in the applicant's home country, housing offers provided in advance and support from native-speaking mentors who assist with visits to the authorities and other tasks.
**Yuien Chi Kwong** (YUMMY Restaurant) As a training coordinator, she focuses on Vietnamese culture when recruiting and uses social media and networks in a targeted manner. During the training programme, she places particular emphasis on respectful interaction, teamwork and perseverance. Kwong: "It's important to have an open ear for employees day and night."
**Hava Soso** (HI-Dienstleistungs GmbH) reported on her own experiences with official hurdles - she waited six years for her work permit. As a trained teacher from Bosnia, she now helps with language integration. HI-Dienstleistungs GmbH has set up its own coordination team for the acquisition and recruitment of new employees from abroad.
One central problem was expressed by all three speakers - the search for affordable housing.
### Open discussions and networking
The event also provided space for lively discussions and networking over a snack. Participants were able to exchange views on the topics of recruiting skilled labour, residence law and company integration at themed tables.
### Conclusion
The Welcome Centre Schleswig-Holstein is a central point of contact for companies wishing to recruit and successfully integrate international skilled workers. A big thank you to all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions!
