Starting signal for the application in Neumünster
Schleswig-Holstein wants to become a model region for climate-neutral industry in Europe. The official starting signal for the application to become a Net Zero Valley has now been given with the kick-off event on 24 March 2026 in Neumünster.
The focus is on the goal of further developing Schleswig-Holstein as a strong industrial location and at the same time setting the course for a climate-neutral future. It became clear that the state has many good prerequisites for taking on a leading role in the expansion of net zero technologies.
It is now a matter of pooling existing strengths, consistently utilising opportunities and actively shaping the industrial transformation.
Focus on key topics for the future
Important impetus came from, among others, Minister of Economic Affairs Claus Ruhe Madsen, Minister of Energy Tobias Goldschmidt, EU expert Prof Dr Klaus-Dieter Borchardt and Jimmie Langham, Managing Director of cruh21 GmbH.
The focus was on key future topics such as industrial value creation, infrastructure and securing skilled labour. At the same time, it became clear that the transformation can only be successful if business, science and municipal practice work closely together.
Net Zero Valley as an opportunity for Schleswig-Holstein as a business location
The objective is ambitious, but achievable: Climate protection, competitiveness and security of supply are to be jointly strengthened, dependencies reduced and Schleswig-Holstein further profiled as an industrial location with a future.
A Net Zero Valley can also strengthen the region as a location for climate-neutral technologies. The European Union is thus pursuing the goal of making industrial clusters more visible, attracting investment and improving the framework conditions for the expansion of production capacities. Access to funding and financing opportunities for net-zero technologies and decarbonisation projects is also to be facilitated.
Stormarn actively contributes its regional perspective
Schleswig-Holstein thus has the opportunity to establish itself as a model region for climate-neutral industry in Europe. As the economic development agency for the Stormarn district, we are also actively involved in this process together with our regional companies and are supporting the further development of the state as a sustainable industrial location.
Suitable projects are needed now
Companies, universities, research institutions and local authorities can submit their ideas for more climate neutrality in Net Zero Valley - for example in the areas of hydrogen, renewable energies or industrial decarbonisation. You can download the NZV profile here
