Respect for rescuers
Police and emergency services are always ready to help people in need. However, their operations are increasingly being disrupted by verbal attacks, threats, targeted blockades of emergency vehicles or even violent assaults, which places a considerable burden on the helpers.
This is why the districts of Ostholstein and Stormarn, together with the foundations of Sparkasse Holstein and the Bürger-Stiftung Ostholstein and Bürger-Stiftung Stormarn, have launched the "Respect for Rescuers" initiative. This initiative aims to support the (often voluntary) emergency services in their life-saving work and to show them respect, appreciation and gratitude.
Various measures are being taken in both districts to sensitise the public and raise awareness of the importance of respect and support for emergency services. The campaigns include information events, training courses and activities in schools and clubs that particularly appeal to young people. These initiatives emphasise that the protection and appreciation of the emergency services is a task for society as a whole.
The campaign was launched on 12 September with a kick-off event at the fire station in Bad Schwartau. After being welcomed by Petra Kirner (District President of Ostholstein), Hans-Werner Harmuth (District President of Stormarn) and Jörg Schumacher (Managing Director of the Sparkasse Holstein foundations) together with rescuers from the fire brigades, rescue services and police, Dr Sabine Sütterlin-Waack, Minister of the Interior, Municipal Affairs, Housing and Sport for the state of Schleswig-Holstein, also took the opportunity to address the participants.
Guests included: District Administrator Dr Henning Görtz, District Administrator Timo Gaarz, representatives of the police, emergency services and fire brigades as well as supporters of the campaign from companies, organisations and municipalities in both districts.
WAS is also pleased to be a part of this campaign and to spread the important message of respect for emergency services.
Together we can create a safer environment for our everyday heroes!
